May 13: Finally, put-in at EGRIP

With a four-day delay, the put-in crew of EGRIP finally arrived in cold, windy and clear weather. We are now ten people at EGRIP: Anders, Thomas, Louise, Christoph, Sverrir, Frederik, Sepp, Josephine, Michael and J.P. We arrived at 13.40L and quickly gained access to the dome. Everything was found in good order. Temperature was -20C in kitchen and close to 0C in the cupola. We quickly gained access through the side door in the carpenter’s garage, and the 35 kW generator was running before the LC-130 was airborne in one attempt using ATO at 14.30L. At 17.00L the first Pistenbully was out and the sleds with tomato huts and Pistenbully cabin were pulled from the cargo line to camp. They will serve as sleeping quarters for three people. We had internet at 19.30 and we had dinner with soup and rice.

What we did today:

1. Opened main dome.
2. Excavated entrance to carpenter’s garage with snow blower.
3. 35kW generator is now running and supplying camp.
4. Made new outhouse.
5. Pulled tomatoes and cabin to camp from cargo line.
6. WIFI operational in camp.
7. Weather station operational.

Weather today: Clear blue skies. Temp. -28 C to -23 C. Wind: 10 kt to 23 kt from WSW. Visibility: Unrestricted. Some drifting snow along surface.
