June 14/15: A brief visit by GEUS Twin Otter allowed us to locate the NGRIP bore hole and extend the casing there

A probably last Saturday evening at EGRIP was celebrated. We had very nice food prepared by Anna Maria and Florian. It was a nice and peaceful evening. After the GEUS team left Saturday, we are now 12 people in camp. The weather has become really warm, with temperatures rising to -3 C. It was so good, that the 109th were able to pull their last flights off, before temperatures began to rise. It would have been awful to try to take off with a LC-130 at -3 C. Sunday, we continued packing and stowing cargo, and we are now removing the markers on the EGRIP skiway. No more flights to here. The last flight out was the GEUS Twin Otter. Saturday, while the GEUS team maintained their weather station, Sverrir and Sepp flew to NGRIP site to find and extend the bore hole casing there. It was a success; but in the last minute. The casing was only 30 cm above the snow, and nothing else from the old NGRIP camp was visible.

What we did in the weekend:

1. A flight by Twin Otter allowed us to locate and extend the NGRIP bore hole casing.
2. After maintaining the GEUS weather station at EGRIP, the GEUS crew left EGRIP after lunch Saturday.
3. Organizing cargo on traverse sleds.
4. Taking down weatherports.
5. Emptying garages.
6. Filling up fuel drums on sleds.
7. Taking down lead-in markers of skiway.

Weather in the weekend: Overcast in the morning, later sunny. Temp. -6 to -3 C, 10 – 12 kt from SW, visibility unrestricted. Temperatures have really gone up.
