Today, we took down our carpenter’s garage. This is one of the two red garages that together with the black dome have defined the EGRIP camp skyline for ten years, with the exception of 2022, where both garages were completely buried after three years of COVID cancellation of field work. Perfect weather for packing down continues. It is warm and the winds are mild, and this is an ideal situation for having so much cargo open on the snow surface. Forecasts are looking good, so tomorrow the second garage is going down. When we begin pulling our cargo and the dome southwards, we hope for more cool weather. At these high temperatures, the snow is soft and pulling becomes hard, so let’s see…
What we did today:
1. Carpenter’s garage taken down and stowed.
2. Mechanic’s garage ready for take down.
3. Organizing cargo on traverse sleds.
4. Filling up fuel sled for traverse.
Weather today: Overcast all day, in the evening sunny. Temp. -5 to -2 C, 8 kt from SW turning to NW and becoming calm, visibility unrestricted.
