We spent the whole day making the first heavy traverse fully ready and finishing the loads for the second. Former EGRIP camp is cleaned up, and we moved the dome and tractor train to the former apron. Here, all sleds were coupled up. We spent the evening with a completely new perspective through the windows. Gone are all known landmarks, and it became even more disorienting as fog rolled in and reduced visibility to 100m. Tomorrow we begin our first heavy move with the dome in tow behind two Pistenbullys and a long sequence of sleds behind the third. The only worry now is how good the snow is for towing. So far, we are on the previous apron of groomed snow, so what will happen when we leave EGRIP and drive into fresh snow?
What we did today:
1. Assembled traverse trains.
2. Sleds are built for 1st and 2nd load.
3. Moving entire 1st load to former EGRIP apron.
Weather today: Clear all day, fog in the evening. Temp. -8 to -3 C, 4 kt from SW, visibility unrestricted, until fog.
