July 02: Setting up garages and 2nd traverse to EGRIP site has departed.

This morning, the 2nd traverse towards EGRIP site took off at 9.10L. The traverse consists of two Pistenbullys, three heavy sleds and a plastic sled. The team is Florian, Sverrir and Sepp. First, the team went to Summit Station to pick up prearranged fuel. They were well received, and they left Summit Station at 15.15L, heading straight towards EGRIP site. They drove until 21.15L, where they stopped some 80 km North of Summit. They drove 110 km today. We can follow them on a tracker. We are now 9 people at GRIP.
Construction of carpenter’s garage is in progress. The frame and arches are almost completed. GRIP is still more or less covered by clouds. It has been like that since we came. We are looking forward to see a little blue sky and the Sun again. The cloud cover removes all contrast on the surface, and it is hard to see tracks and holes on the snow surface.
Otherwise, we are well, and at least the nine of us enjoy the luxury of a warm and cosy dome.

What we have done today:

1. 2nd traverse departed at 9.10L.
2. Framework on carpenter’s garage almost completed.

Weather today: Overcast all day. Temp. -15 to -9 C, 8-12 kt from WNW. Visibility good, poor contrast due to overcast.
