July 3: Setting up garages, marking skiway and 2nd traverse to EGRIP makes progress.

The 2nd traverse towards EGRIP site made good time today, and they might arrive at EGRIP site tomorrow evening.
Meanwhile at GRIP, we completed the framework on carpenter’s garage and began laying the frame for mechanic’s garage. Also, we set all essential markers for the future GRIP skiway, and we surveyed the skiway. The skiway is 12,000 feet long (3658 m) and 200 feet wide (61 m). It runs 180-360 degrees true (straight N-S), 450 m East of the Dome. The southern end is 1.86 m higher than the northern end. This gives a slope of 0.06 % (rather flat). Now, we need to set all extra markers; but they will be arriving with 2nd traverse.

What we have done today:

1. 2nd traverse stopped at 21.15L. They are 135 km from EGRIP/205 km from GRIP. They drove 125 km today.
2. Framework on carpenter’s garage completed. Laying out frame for Mechanic’s garage.
3. Essential markers for skiway set. Surveying GRIP skiway.

Weather today: Clear in morning. Overcast during day. Clear in Evening. Temp. -19 to -11 C, calm in night, 10-12 kt from S. Visibility good, poor contrast when overcast.
