The 2nd traverse towards EGRIP site made good time today, and they arrived this evening. Now, they will spend a day or two collecting all the sleds with cargo left behind, transferring fuel from tanks to bladders and removing last items from our snow caves there. Once they are loaded up, they will head back for GRIP, and EGRIP site will be history with only a bore hole casing visible and otherwise an empty snow surface.
Meanwhile at GRIP, we laid most of the snow floor in carpenter’s garage and raised most of the frame work for mechanic’s garage. Now, we wait for the wind to calm down so we can put covers on the garages.
What we have done today:
1. 2nd traverse drove 135 km today and arrived at EGRIP at 20.00L.
2. Framework for Mechanic’s garage almost done.
3. Putting snow on floor of carpenter’s garage.
Weather today: Overcast until late afternoon. Clear in Evening. Temp. -17 to -10 C, 12-16 kt from S turning W. Visibility good, poor contrast when overcast.
