July 7: Weather still blocks covering garages; but 2nd traverse is doing really fine.

At GRIP, we are anxiously following the progress of the traverse crew. They are hauling a really heavy load and snow conditions and weather are key for good progress. So far, they are doing really well, and they might reach us at GRIP tomorrow evening. According to various weather websites, they apparently avoided the bad weather we have had in the past two days. Here at GRIP, it looked like the weather would improve this morning; but no. The wind and snow came back. However, most forecasts have a good Tuesday in wait for us. We really, really want to put covers on our garages, and tomorrow could be the day. When the traverse arrives, we have a long list of tasks that need to be done before our deparure July 17th. We just need some collaboration from the weather.

What we have done today:

1. 2nd traverse drove from 10.00L to 20.30L and made 119 km today and is now 110 km from GRIP.
2. Placed some markers on skiway and marked out future cook’s freezer cave.
3. Cleaned up under dome and removed steering rods from skis.
4. Weather prevented covering garages.

Weather: Looked promising this morning; but deteriorated. Overcast with snow, and some blowing snow. 14-20 kt from SSW, temp -11 C to -9 C. Visibility down to 500 m in periods.
