July 11: A beautiful day at GRIP.

Garages are being filled up and the third and last storage tent is being raised. Slowly, all cargo is being consolidated. Weather today has been really beautiful and it was a pleasure to work outside. We are in the process of casting underground ducts in the snow for cables between the garages, the dome and the generator. Next year, when we arrive, we need only to turn on the generator and there will be power in the dome and the garages. Slowly, we are getting used to being at GRIP. It has helped for our navigtion that the skiway is marked. This gives a reference on the open snow. EGRIP is now just a memory, and I have included a picture from the former EGRIP camp taken while the last traverse left the site. There is nothing, only disturbed snow and a few bamboo flags.

What we have done today:

1. 10 x 15 weatherport taken down.
2. Frame for white storage garage built.
3. Cable duct cast between mechanic’s garage and carpenter’s garage.
4. Repairs of our medium fuel pump. Not successful. Need ignition coil.

Weather: Sunshine all day. 4-6 kt from NE turning S, temp -22 C to -11 C. Visibility to horizon.

EGRIP site after traverse left. The hill to the right of center, is where the dome used to be. Some bamboo flags remain to mark spots with soft snow or holes. This is for the airplane that will land next year with a crew to maintain an automatic weaather station, still at the site.
