Because of the long evening work on Tuesday, we were pretty set for a pick-up by the Basler. In the morning fog, we checked the skiway and made a report to the pilots. Then we waited for the fog to lift and for word that the Basler had left Kangerlussuaq. At 13.15L the Basler took off with a flight time of 2.5 hours, and this started a last flurry of activity in camp. All vehicles were either parked in garages or on snow hills. People packed their personal luggage and put it on the snow outside the dome. When the plane landed at 15.40L, we were ready. Our water supply was thrown out into the snow, the generator was stopped and we stowed weather station, ceilometer and communication equipment. With the last snowmobile and sled, we drove our luggage to the plane. Then the snowmobile and sled were parked in garage, the main door to the dome was boarded up, and everybody walked to the plane. We took off from GRIP at 17.10L and landed back in Kangerlussuaq at 19.40L. Today, one of the most important days, weather collaborated and we had perfect flying conditions.
What we have done today:
- Receiving White Desert Basler.
- Parking all heavy vehicles in garages and on snow hills.
- Closing garages for winter.
- Cleaning up in main dome.
- Taking down weather station and communications.
- Walking to plane and good bye to GRIP.
Weather: Fog in the morning. Clearing in afternoon. Temp. -15 C to -8 C, winds 5-10 kt from S.
