May 28: “Drifting snow, but good progress”

As the wind from the north continues for the 3rd day in a row, snowdrifts are starting to build hampering our operations. Nevertheless, in a camp like this, there are always many tasks to do, even when the weather is not fully collaborating. Hence, in between moving snow, Tom also serviced our new but not operational skidoo. It turned out it was just the fuel-sensor that wasn’t working as it should, and the snow mobile had simply run out of gas, without the fuel indicator showing so. In the meantime, James, Jonathan and Charlotte upgraded our snow mobile parking spot by raising the pole for the electrical cables, that we use for heating the skidoos.
Out of the wind, Charlotte and Rahul went through the safety boxes in our carpenters’ garage, noting any items they found missing or in need of an update or replacement. Carlos and Charlotte also found time to continue to sort the enormous pile of screws of all sizes that we have in camp. Bo and Chantal carried out another job in the dome, getting the wiring for our new OneWeb/Tusass satellite internet nicely drawn from the ground floor to the office floor. This new system is now operational, after some lose connections were at least provisionally addressed.
In the drilling area work is also progressing at pace, with Grant and James making a foundation in the drill tent, with Jonathan, Julien and Kevin helping out as well, while also working on the power to the drill tent. Sepp also continuedhis work on the power cable project, while Anders and Carlos got the food better organized in the new freezer cave. Amazingly, Anders also managed to sweeten our day with delicious “Drømmekage” (Dream cake), while also making sure we were getting both a tasty lunch and a nice dinner!

What we did this Thursday:
1. Serviced the non-functioning new Skidoo.
2. Finished making foundation for winch and tower in the drill tent.
3. Continued work on cable duct to drill tent.
4. Documented safety boxes in carpenter’s garage.
5. Sorted through most of the pile of assorted screws inherited from EastGRIP.
6. Raised pole for Skidoo heating power cables.
7. Organized frozen and dry food from white tent to cook’s freezer.
8. Pulled wire from ground floor to office floor for OneWeb/Tusass system.
9. Debugged lose connections and established internet connection with the OneWeb/Tusass system.

Weather: Mainly cloudy conditions with snow drift all day. Temp from -35C to -26C. Wind between 9 kts and 19 kts from N.
