Our current Green2Ice GRIP drill team: Grant, Kevin, Julien, Chantal and James, with various helpers along the way have really made impressive progress, and now the inside of the drillers tent is looking more and more like an operational drill site, with tower, winch, inclined trench, drillers cabin, power distribution, perfect flooring and a table in the process of being setup for core push-out and logging. The keen eye will see that we still need some more items in place to do drilling with a drill liquid, but having the tower up in the inclined trench is still a beautiful and welcome sight indeed, and a major milestone!
Otherwise, another windy day, impeded progress on the cable trenches as well as the mounting of solar panels, but Carlos, Jonathan and Rahul still managed to move the scaffold and install varios cabling for the panels on the dome, while Charlotte readied the various bits and pieces needed for mounting the next batch of solar panels, as soon as conditions allow. After that the four of them dug out all the spare skiway flags from the cargo line and brought them to the carpenter’s garage. Thomas also had a busy day, first locating an oil pressure sensor error on our camp backup generator, then repairing a gaping hole in one of the sewage pipes under the dome, and finally digging out our big Pistenbully snowblower together with Sepp. Inside them dome, Bo is doing his best to coordinate cargo for the upcoming flight period together with Thomas B. our FOM in Kangerlussuaq. And as usual Anders works his magic in the kitchen spoiling all of us with a tasty lunch and a delicious dinner.
What we did this Friday:
- Installed tower in the drill tent.
- Finished geoblock flooring in the drill tent.
- Started setting up push-out / logging table.
- Repaired sewage pipe under dome.
- Dug out big snow blower for pistenbully.
- Got camp backup generator operational, after identifying error in oil sensor.
- Extended solar panel wiring down towards surface and moved scaffold.
- Dug out spare skiway flags from cargo line and moved them to carpenters tent.
Re 1-3: Drillers’ report:
Julien and Chantal completed installing the GeoBlock flooring in the drill tent. The entire floor is covered, nearly to the edges of all surfaces. Kevin began building a spare control pendant for the tower. James and Grant made final positioning adjustments to the tower and then fastened it to the sub-frame. Julien and Chantal planned and started building the logging table. Grant and Kevin tested tower actuator and control box – it booted up and worked immediately. We ended the day by adding the 2.5m truss sections and doing a final positioning check
Weather: A cloudy and windy day with snow showers and then increasing sunny spells in the evening. Temp. from -21C to -9C. Wind gradually increasing from 6 kts in the early hours after midnight to 15-19kts around midday and staying high until evening, gusting up to 24 kts, while gradually turning from ENE to SE.
