With plane operations starting again in only a week, it was time to begin grooming our skiway again. Using a Pistenbully both Saturday and Sunday, Thomas managed to go over the skiway twice. The drillers also had a productive weekend in the drill tent continuing tower installation, as well as many other smaller tasks needed to be carried out before everything becomes operational (see drillers report below). Charlotte, Jonathan and Rahul managed to use the favourable low winds to mount a further 8 solar panels on the dome, and Sepp continued the work on cable trenches for the weatherports, again assisted by Bo from time to time. Carlos continues his work on radiation measurements to be used for luminescence dating interpretation, assisted by Sepp, who made a small trench for the measurements at the edge of the clean snow zone.
Saturday night Kevin and Grant prepared a delicious dinner for us: Pork tenderloin ramen with soy sauce eggs and spring rolls. For dessert we got a tasty raspberry sorbet, also by Grant and Kevin. After dinner most of camp played the funny/scary game “Werewolf” with several rounds narrated by Chantal and Grant, so a real game night! Sunday evening, Anders kept the tradition of opening his GRIP pizzeria, this time with assistance from Thomas, and then Rahul set up the upstairs floor for a nice movie night for camp.
What we did this Weekend:
- Groomed skiway twice.
- Continued drill tower assembly and preparation for wet drilling.
- Completed ERV installation in drillers cabin.
- Prepared logger for replacement parts.
- Continued work on push-out / logging table.
- Continued work on cable ducts to weatherports.
- Mounted 8 solar panels on the dome, 30 panels are now in place.
- Made motion detection radar mode for grooming.
- Tested camp siren system.
- Dug trench for radiation measurements.
- Had a delicious Saturday dinner and a fun game night.
- Movie night Sunday evening.
Re 2-5: Drillers’ report:
We continued assembly and tuning of tower. Drip trays, drill rests, cabling, and reaction sheave installed. James completed ERV installation in the drillers cabin. Julien and Chantal collected drill cargo and boxes from all over camp. Consolidating our gear all around the drill berm, and continued work on the push-out/logging table. Kevin prepared the logger for replacement parts that will arrive on the next 109th flight. He also familiarized himself the winch controller, preparing for a busy period after the delivery.
Weather: A Weekend with fairly low winds and increasing sunny spells among snow showers. Temp. from -18C to -8C. Wind 4-10kts, turning from SE to NE Saturday, and then from NE back to SE and then to S during Sunday.
