Today was a very special day in many ways! First of all, Skier 52 brought 12 new crew members to camp, and secondly one of these crew members is Steff, for whom this time was his 50th year on the ice! Steff started his ice experience on the DYE-3 station in 1976 developing and testing the first version of very ice core drilling technology we still use today. Hence, a true ice coring legend has arrived here at GRIP! Thirdly, we all said goodbye to Carlos and Jonathan, who has been at GRIP since the very first day being part of the camp opening crew. And then one of the incoming crew member had his birthday today. Hence, we celebrated Anders P. in the usual camp manner with cake and the Danish birthday song where 3 “instruments” should be chosen. The choices were rather untraditional, but the now quite big camp did its very best to imitate the sounds. Otherwise, the day went with briefing and housing the new crew members, as well as starting to break down all the cargo brought to camp by Skier 52. Furthermore, Thomas once again had to groom the skiway in anticipation of tomorrows flight mission. The incoming and outgoing drill teams also found time to have a common chips meeting in the dome reviewing the video evidence of the casing, showing the issue of the accumulating fiber glass fragments.
