With new people in camp, new projects are being started up. The drillers received a couple of new tools that they will try out in the troublesome casing in the coming days. Today adaptors were made for connecting tools to the drill. The solar power lead battery pack is being installed in a Viessman cabin mounted on a short heavy sledge in front of main dome. In the following days, the batteries will be connected to the solar panels mounted on the dome and tested as a green power supply for camp. The PFAS team, Eliza and Will, made a first visit to their sampling site 14 km SE of camp. We also received a Skier today that brought fuel, food and other necessities. As the plane left, we said goodbye to Anders K.-H., Grant and Bo. We will miss their good company! We expect our next field participants to arrive already early next week when the AWI Basler DC-3 is scheduled to join us for the rest of the season. Although it is Saturday, we kept a low profile in the evening as many of us are still adjusting to the altitude.
What we did this Saturday:
- Prepared adapters for connecting tools to the drill
- Mounted the concrete drilling bit and a second, long antitorque
- Maintained and troubleshooted the drill surface unit
- Maintained skiway flags
- Received Skier 62
- Said goodbye to Grant, Anders K.-H. and Bo
- Sorted incoming cargo
- Moved small heavy sledge in front of Dome for batteries
- Started mounting of Viessman and batteries on sledge
- Groomed skiway after Skier left
- Made a first visit to PFAS sampling site
Ad. 5: We received 13,930 liters of fuel and food for the 2027 field season. Landing and takeoff were both very smooth. Takeoff using ½ skiway in first attempt.
Weather: Morning ground fog. Overcast all day becoming sunny in the late evening. Temp. from -26C to -12C. Wind 0-8 kts mostly from NE. Slight snowfall in the afternoon.
