Today the drillers used the so-called GRIPper to grab a medium sized piece of fiberglass from the current bottom of the borehole, at around 56m depth. Proving that with a lot of patience, precision, and resilience one can recover one piece after another. Estimates of speed for this recovery process point to weeks or months, rather than days. More tools were deployed downhole, but access beyond 56m remains restricted. On a positive note, the shallow drill has been tested by drilling an ice core in camp and it is ready to be employed tomorrow. At the PFAS site the Kovacs drilling was terminated at 13.6 m depth. In camp, mounting of cables from the dome solar panels to the battery Viessmann is in full swing and the first solar-powered battery charging is ongoing despite the overcast conditions. In the morning, Polar 6 with crew returned to Kanger and is on hold until the ICELINK program starts.
