After yesterday’s rescue operation for the shallow drill, the drill needed some maintenance. The motor section is not meant to be wet and yesterday’s glycol shower required cleaning and drying or replacement of sensitive parts. Another test drilling was performed in camp with the new configuration. The drill is now loaded on Polar 6 ready to go to go to the first drilling site out of camp tomorrow. Today the deep drillers deployed a 140 mm spiral fishing tool. This tool did not make it past the broken 32m casing seam and in the process broke off another piece of fiberglass from the casing, which dropped to the bottom of the hole. Later we constructed a shield for the camera, so it can be deployed next to the Kovacs auger. This will be tested tomorrow. At the surface, Magnus has started to build the winter snow hills north of camp, where the large sledges will be overwintering. A total of 7 berms are needed. The mega trench team tirelessly continued sampling profile after profile, and Anton is doing seismic experiments, preparing for the vibro truck to come to GRIP next year.
