This morning we once again were visited by the Polar 6 Basler, this time both as a cargo and passenger shuttle. We waived goodbye to Pia, Johannes, Maria, Nora and Iben, who left with the shallow drill. We welcomed Marie and are now 8 persons in camp for the remaining days. During the week, the ICELINK team will attempt to fly to southern part of the Greenland ice sheet, to the Dye-3 site, where a deep ice core was drilled to bedrock in the 1980’ties. That project is going to be a challenge as conditions are warm down there, coming with the risk of melting and difficult flying conditions. If temperatures are above -5C the Basler can most likely not take off from the open snow, so something or someone will have to be left behind and hopefully being picked up later… we are following the expedition in excitement.
In camp, our sole purpose now is to close down camp in an organized manner. Most work is outdoors, so we take advantage of good weather conditions. Today we could take down the last Weatherports and more small tents, so the village is shrinking.
What we did this Monday:
- Polar 6 cargo and passenger shuttle SFJ -> GRIP -> SFJ
- Took down WP3 + WP4 (5 out of 5)
Weather: Wind 4-18 kt from W, highest during midday. Temp -10C to -20C.
