Today, we continued closing down camp: several of the large sledges when up on winter hills, the caterpillar and one of the Pistenbullies were parked in the mechanics garage, skiway flags were checked and replaced, electrical cables were secured at the surface and more stuff was stored in the drill tent and in the large storage trench. The surface around camp has been groomed and the surroundings start looking quite empty out there. Afterall, we are situated in a desert. Right on top of a sunken city, though. In the evening, we watched a dome classic, ‘Insomnia’, a Nolan movie showing how bad things can go when you cannot sleep at night because the Sun is up 24h. Meanwhile, our ICELINK friends made it to Dye-3 in Southern Greenland and started drilling. At 20m depth they passed the 2012 melt layer. Early Wednesday morning we learned that 60m depth had been reached and that the Basler was returning to Kanger with all equipment, ice cores and passengers. Success!
