We had one night with cold conditions. This morning, the dome was above freezing, and by evening, we had room temperature in the dome. Everybody is fine, and it was nice to get rid of polar gear indoor. The weather is behaving, so we got a lot of opening tasks done today. With a functioning camp, we are now working on getting the skiway ready for the next flight which will bring in the science traverse crew. The skiway has to be prepared in order for the 109th to make a regular landing at EGRIP. If all goes well, we may receive a plane on Saturday – let’s see. We enjoyed both lunch and supper in a warm dome. A luxury.
What we did today:
1. Managed to activate weather station, webcam and ceilometer on web page.
2. Excavated entrance to mechanic’s garage and got the Caterpiller, Pistenbully no. 2 and several snow mobiles out.
3. Opened cook’s freezer and installed solar powered light.
4. Pulled main generator into position. Main generator is now powering camp and supplies main dome with central heating. 35kW generator is now backup.
5. Groomed skiway, taxiways and ½ apron.
Weather today: Few scattered clouds. Temp. -27 C to -17 C. Wind: 10 kt from WSW. Visibility: Unrestricted.
