May 16: We prepare for a flight tomorrow, and a few moments of frustration.

As mentioned below, we found three CO2 cylinders in carpenter’s garage. In the past couple of days, these elusive cylinders were not detected by people searching for them, although in our documentation from last year they were mentioned. Today they were found, hidden in a corner. Why are these cylinders so precious to us, you might ask? Well, they are used to run our soda machine, and having access to carbonated water is a huge boost to morale in camp. So all is good. Another issue came about, as it turned out that the bolts delivered for our plastic sled were too long and couldn’t be tightened. Several conversations with Kangerlussuaq later, the people in Kangerlussuaq found enough oversized nuts to act as spacers for the long bolts. Another problem solved. That’s how it is in field work. Now we hope for a flight tommorrow so we can get the third and last flight in with our Pistenbully no3 in a few days time. Let’s cross fingers.

What we did today:

1. Buliding the first plastic sled for traverse.
2. Made inventory on emergency boxes for traverse.
3. Grooming skiway.
4. Resetting skiway markers and completed skiway survey.
5. Two cooks preparing food for traverse.
6. Found CO2 gas cylinders in a corner of carpenter’s garage.

Weather today: Apart from a few hours of almost white out around Noon, few scattered clouds. Temp. -18 C to -9 C. Wind: 10-22 kt from WSW. Visibility: At Noon 1 km, otherwise unrestricted. Some drifting snow.
