June 18: All remaining structures at EGRIP are now on ski

As the mechanic’s garage was taken down today, EGRIP camp has no more structures fixed to the snow. Now, everything is on ski or sleds, or in boxes waiting to be loaded onto sleds. The day of departure is approahing. We think Saturday morning departure. Except for a little fog this morning, the first real fog this season, weather was favourable for packing. We pack everything, also for the planned 2nd traverse. This way, the 2nd traverse team will just arrive, hook up sleds, and return South to GRIP.

What we did today:

1. Mechanics’s garage taken down and stowed.
2. Building sleds.
3. Making ready to empty our two last storages: Cook’s freezer and ramp tunnel to empty trenches.

Weather today: Fog all morning, slightly clearing, then overcast. Temp. -14 to -3 C, 2-6 kt from N turning SW, visibility unrestricted.
